We've been BUSY!

You might have noticed that my public persona has been relatively quiet as of late.  Well, let me assure you that it certainly is not from lack of adventures.  In fact, I'd say that it is quite the opposite!

If you recall, I made some posts in May about gallivanting adventures with our grandson, Joshua, who lives in Bristol, Virginia.  As luck would have it,  he and his mama ended up making the trip here at the end of June, and they are staying for a couple of months until their new home is ready for their family to set up residence.  In the meantime, Joshua wakes every morning, eager to delve into some sort of fun, and let's face it....there are plenty of opportunities to entertain.

Early July means blueberries, and we wasted no time picking some luscious fruit from our bush, and set to making and baking a tempting blueberry coffeecake.

It was delicious!

The fun of picking blueberries paled into comparison to hunting down Lantern Fly nymphs and spraying them with Dawn Dish Spray. Well, at least it was excitement for a nine year old boy!

He has nicknamed the solution:  Dawn of the Dead, and he is now on the lookout for pesky invaders.

With the 4th of July just a few days away, he helped me with some household decorating to help make the place a bit more festive.  We weren't entertaining guests, but it was still fun to have the red, white and blue fanfare to spruce up the place a bit. I'm sure the neighbors raised an eyebrow at the sudden spurt of patriotism that is now visible from the street.

That's a LOT of flags, for sure!

The 4th began with the annual Wyomissing Parade, which was a bit smaller than in years past, but Joshua had nothing to compare it with.  It was his first REAL parade, and he had fun scooping up candy and enjoying the participants.

There were bands to entertain

Babies

Doggies

Lots of kiddie participants

Vintage cars

A patriotic eagle

And firetrucks, old and new

An enjoyable event, for sure.

That evening, we headed out to the Reading Symphony Orchestra's July 4th Spectacular, held on the grounds of the EnerSys Company Headquarters.

It took some time to park the car and haul our chairs over to the field, but we set up with a nice view of the performers.

It was a lovely evening, not too hot, and people were spaced out fairly well, so we could sit back, relax, and listen to the orchestra play their annual hits.

Afterwards, a spectacular fireworks display filled the air, delighting Joshua , and the rest of us as well.  It was the first time that Joshua had actually seen such a dynamic showing of fireworks, and he was thoroughly entertained.  In fact, it made it worth sitting through the extremely long medley from the musical, "West Side Story".

Pretty grand, don't you think?

The next evening, he and Grandpa made some fun with their own fireworks....mini version.  But entertaining, nonetheless.

Let's face it....that Grandpa is Mr. Fun!

And not to worry....there will be many more fun adventures to be shared in the future! Get ready....

Final Day at the Beach

One thing for certain is that we were blessed to have great weather every day this week.  Just a few hours of rain in the middle of the week, but we still managed to have a great morning at the beach for the showers began to fall.

Today was no exception regarding the beauty of the day, and we were sure to make the absolute most of every minute. We'll be leaving early in the morning, and there will be no time to write a blog, so I'll give you some highlights of the day:

My morning coffee view:

Marty caught a flounder.

Finn dug a ditch.

A BIG one.  He even managed to hit water down there!  (He was VERY excited)

Parker had Ditch Envy....and Finn even let him slide way down to the bottom with him for a few minutes.

The big cousins entertained the littlest.

There was a lot of fun in the waves.

Along with some great boogie-boarding.

Lots of time playing in the sand

and even a Mickey Mouse sand creation, thanks to Finn and Aunt Amy.

Pool time fun

and an evening concert

which resulted in some festive dancing.

It was an absolutely gorgeous evening.

Complete with one magnificent sunset.

and a final photo with Gramma and PapPap G.

Gramma's in there...hidden by two cuties sitting in her lap.

It was a fabulous ending to a wonderful week.  Thanks for following along!
