We awoke to cloudy skies, but still managed to get a morning walk in, past the spring that leads to the St. John River.
The walk had been my idea, but I was to learn something new.
As you can see, the river was smooth
and relatively still.
The walk had been my idea, but I was to learn something new.
You may be surprised to read this, but I never really gave much thought to still water before.
Apparently smooth, still water goes hand in hand with what some consider to be perfect fishing conditions.
One look over the edge,
and I knew that my fate for the day had changed.
It didn't take long for Marty to procure a fishing permit and pull out his trusty fishing gear and portable rod that, believe it or not, he had packed in his suitcase.
So, while Marty attempted to catch fish, I entertained myself by taking some photos of the pier
and the lovely little bridge over the spring that flows towards the river.
I was lucky enough to spot a Blue Heron looking for a meal
and, once again, the osprey that I had spotted yesterday, perched in a tree, waiting for the right moment to swoop down and capture its prey.
The fishing was relatively short-lived for Marty, as one thunderstorm after another rolled over Green Cove Springs for the rest of the day. There was a brief hiatus for about an hour late in the afternoon, and Marty just couldn't resist the call of the fish.
He didn't catch any……but there's always tomorrow……right?
I'll keep you posted!
