Ever since our kids were little, we’ve taken a summer vacation to the beach with only a few exceptions. Today’s blog title reflects a particular memory, before our youngest was born, when Marty had the kids give me a Mother’s Day gift that he obviously bought. The kids were SO excited for me to open it. I ripped off the paper, pried open the box, and slowly removed a tank top shirt which clearly said “Beach Mania”. I looked at him, questioningly, mouthing the words, to which he replied, “Beach Mama”! I made him look closer, and he soon realized that he had misread the type on the shirt.
Let’s face it, when you have a houseful of adults in combination with six kids, at times it might seem like beach mania. And the fun that the littles had this evening certainly fit the bill. But these are special memories and I’ve come to realize that they are a real treasure.
So, as we complete our last day of this year’s vacation, here are some highlights that I’d like to share.
Yesterday, we watched this boat on wheels travel along the beach and into the ocean.
It headed out to this barge that was obviously filled with sand and slowly making it's way just in front of our beach house!
After a few hours, we heard a loud horn bellowing from a distance, then the barge, now empty, headed out to sea while the boat on wheels made its way back to shore. Let's face it, you don't see that kind of excitement everyday, do you?
Wednesday was a big hit for the Yinzer fisherman:
I got tired of popping up out of my chair to take photos, so I asked my grandson to take them for me. He was happy to oblige.
Joshua wanted to try his hand at the sport, and was excited to retrieve one himself.
But as much fun as the fishing was, the most exciting part of the day was this little guy's fifth birthday!
I can assure you that he was super excited, and he had a grand time playing with some of the gifts that he received at the beach house.
And this might just be the most unique gift received, from Aunt Amy: T-Rex in the sky!
He hung out all day today as we played on the beach.
Today there was a lot of body surfing
and some cousin relay racing.
and this adorable photo of the cousins under the pier. Such a great shot!
If you recall, I mentioned in my first beach blog that the little mermaid was painted on the interior of the pool. My granddaughter was able to capture the photo with her phone camera. Didn't I say it was cool?
So, our week filled with mermaids, sand castles and a bit of beach mania has come to an end.
A fun time enjoyed by all!
Until next time....
