Well.....it finally happened!
Marty's dream....catch fish in Minnesota. And so, he and Lon headed out in Lon's boat onto Big Fish Lake and it delivered according to its name: Big Fish.
Marty claimed that he caught more fish than he could keep count. Guess we'll never really know.
Lon was busy as well.
And not only that, but a family of loons swam by to add to the experience.
I'd say that Marty and Lon had a blast!
In the meantime, Paula swung by and picked me up, and we headed over to her house to just relax and chat while we waited for the fisherman to return. Then we enjoyed a lovely lunch out on their beautiful patio. Actually, the photo was taken in the kitchen....
then we headed out to the patio for some good food and interesting conversations.
We gave them a brief break for the afternoon, and headed back to our B&B which is only about 15 minutes from their house. The Mississippi flowing just a short distance away was too tempting for Marty to resist. Especially since his luck had obviously changed.
So, he headed down to the dock. My phone rang, startling me, and I saw it was Marty. I answered and he blurted out: I just caught the BIGGEST BASS of my LIFE!
To say he was excited is an understatement. In 40 minutes, he managed to catch 4 more.
It was better than a dream.
We had promised Lon and Paula that we would meet them at a special outdoor dinner venue that features a band playing and specialty pizzas to enjoy, so Marty had been on a tight fishing time line. He obviously made the most of it.
The venue was lovely. The weather was perfect! And the band was quite good.
Dinner was delicious as well. I ordered the MN Mediterranean personal pizza. Marty chose the Dill Pickle Pizza which actually looked quite appealing.....if you like dill pickles.
He does. And it apparently was delectable!
It really was such a lovely evening and we really enjoyed these last moments with Lon and Paula.
They certainly made our trip extra special.
I must admit, I'm happy that Marty urged me to make the trip. Every moment with this couple has been extra special.
Tomorrow we begin our trek back to Chicago since Hertz has made our return elsewhere unacceptable.
So, I cancelled our last two nights in Fargo, as well as the flight from Fargo to Chicago (but kept the second leg of the trip home.)
Tomorrow we'll head to Wisconsin to see what kind of excitement that state has to offer.
I'll be sure to keep you posted.
